It came to my attention that over the past year I have been more successful with my fanfiction.net account rather than my deviantart account for most matters.
So with that in mind, I want to point out a few statistics.
On deviantart, since October 2012, I have had 42,492 page views, 104 watchers, and (I know I removed a few pics) 36,570 views on the stuff in my gallery. My most like deviation is PNW Lightning, Abandoned Rodents has the most comments and the picture of the amount of snow at the Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier is my most viewed deviation with 962 views. Now that may seem like a lot, but just listen to my fanfiction account:
Since July 2014
I have had 1,042 people view my profile page, am on the favorites list of 40 people and the author alert list of 36 people.
Aside from deleted stories, I have had 24,165 views on my stories, with most of those occurring in the last six months. My the most viewed story is Skywalker's Daughter with 7,948 views, it is also the most reviewed with 41 reviews, the most favorited and most followed.
Sure, DA might look like it holds an edge, until you look at the number of pieces up.
DA: 453
Fanfiction.net: 18
To put that into perspective, that is
For each piece average:
DA: 80 views, 1.12 comments, and 4.77 favs per deviation
Fanfiction.net: 1,342.5 views, 11.4 reviews, 8 favs, and 9.05 follows per story
Both sides have had stuff deleted, I even deleted two 1k+ viewed stories earlier in the week on fanfiction because I didn't like them. For right now, Fanfiction is whooping my deviantart's ass.
But when I tried to put my work from fanfiction onto here, it only bubbled, except for Hiding in plain sight (pokemon fanfic) chapter 1, which had more views on DA in one chapter than four on fanfiction.
The amount of haters on DA is remarkably less compared to fanfiction where I have been told to kill myself. Not fun. So, that's why I have this ongoing experiment to see if I can reach that same level of success as I have on fanfiction on deviantart. I'd like to be a little more well known around here (Granted, I get kicked out of every single chatroom).
Now don't get me wrong, DA can be great for some people. But for others who are trying to get noticed among the endless sea of people with better equipment or more skill, it is kind of sad.
So here's to us little guys, trying to find our place to shine. May life treat you well. -Jay
